This is a photo of our work in progress. This swag has a longer drop than average. Roman or classical swags have a finished width greater than their drop at a ratio of approximately 5 to 3. The closer the proportion is to square (1 to 1), the more Gothic the swag looks. This proportion is used in Italian Renaissance, Romantic French, and some English designs.
Notice that swag folds are smooth, without kinks and creases. This is made possible by careful fabric selection and cutting the piece on the bias of the grain which allows the fabric to bend nicely in the U shape you see here.
